Grima Wormtongue aka Dominic Cummings had his day on camera today. It sounded great fun. Honest Boris is ‘unfit’ to be Prime Minister, ‘tens of thousands’ of people died unnecessarily from Covid due to government incompetence, Hancock the health minister is a liar and a fool.
The thing is none of this is news. We’ve known it and more all along. The PM’s poodles have followed the PM’s lead and made up their alternative facts throughout. But their decisions and actions – or lack of – have been there for all to see. We’ve been watching this slow-motion car crash, and the deaths we admit to, since February 2020.
The media has been reasonably good at documenting the details. However because there has been no vocal opposition making noise and keeping it in the news the public have forgotten about the government’s disastrous performance. Lies, incompetence, tens of extra thousands dead, and they still did well in local elections.
It doesn’t help that Cummings is loathed and seen as trying to do a hatchet job on Honest Boris. But that’s not the real issue. Facts sink in by osmosis, and they’ve not been in contact with the voting public long enough to effect them. My guess is Wormtongue will be forgotten next week.
